CAN YOU HELP W/ 2 ENGLISH MAKERS MARKS???

Postby spunky123elmo » Fri May 18, 2007 6:13 pm

Hi!
I just picked up some silverplate pieces that are both marked ENGLAND.

One has a mark that looks like a Jewish Menorah(Spelling?) inside a circular emblem or wreath w/ feet.

The other piece is marked w/ a square shaped emblem with what looks like a jardiniere w/a spray of 8 bulbous lines coming out of it.
Any help would be appreciated as I am a real NEWBIE at this! Thankyou!

Sounds like a couple of silverplate marks used by the Ellis-Barker Silver Companies, Birmingham, England.
Known as Barker-Ellis in Great Britain.
They began exporting to the U.S. c. 1905 and opened an American branch in New York.
They started using these two marks around 1912 according to Dorothy Rainwater's book.
Originally known as Barker Brothers from c.1860. Became Ellis-Barker in 1931.

Here's a couple more marks that they used:

ThanX so much! Those are EXACTLY the marks. (The top 2) I picked these up w/ some other Reed & Barton S.P. pieces that date from the early to mid 1930's so that puts it about the right period also!!!
I really appreciate your help in identifying these! Like I said, I am very new to this.
Take Care!
