*eagle wm rogers *star help

Postby cphine » Fri May 11, 2007 12:14 am

Seems to be a recurring question in many places, but I can't seem to find one that exactly matches what I have.
On a circular serving tray of sorts, about 12 inches wide, the stamp on back reads (eagle picture) Wm Rogers (star picture). The "m" is underlined and superscripted. The number given underneath this is 171H. I have found one similar, but without the H. Any ideas?
Cheers,
Christian

The Eagle, Wm. Rogers and Star mark was first used around 1836 on coin silver spoons.
From 1878 to 1893 this mark was used on silverplated flatware produced by the Simpson, Hall, Miller & Company.
In 1898 Simpson, Hall, Miller & Company merged with other companies to form the International Silver Company.
International Silver used this mark on silverplated flatware until 1976.
International Silver also used this mark on silverplated holloware from 1938 to 1976.

Thank you for the response. I suppose my question was poorly written. I have been struggling to find an "index" of sorts for the pieces created by Rogers/Simpson, Hall, Miller, & Company/International Silver. I would like to know during which phase of the companies' history my piece was created. It is marked "171H" but I have yet to find any reference to the "h" designation. The only "171" I have found in a listing of IS doesn't remotely resemble my piece, so the H is obviously important. That specifically is what I'm curious about.
I would be greatful if anyone had some info.
Thanks again,
Christian
