Possibly two new marks

Postby teresa » Wed May 09, 2007 3:25 am

Hi.,

I found a set of silver salt cellars with unusual mark (at least for a novice person). It includes a row of three squares with pictures in each of them: bear in the left square, capital letter C in the middle one and a figure resembling a bird in the right one.

Another find is somewhat recognizable (mgf corporation, etc). However, I could not find a piece that had exactly the same combination of information in the mark. It reads: English Silver, FMG Corp, Made in the USA by Fonard Silver.

I tried unsuccesfully to attach pictures. Could anybody give directions on how to do it? The image button did not work.

I appreciate your help.

Hi Teresa.
Here's some information on adding pictures: How to Add Images

In the future, please limit each post to one item. Just start another thread for other items.

First mark sounds like a silverplate mark used by the Crescent Silverware Mfg. Company.
Founded in 1922 in New York City. Moved to Port Jervis, New York, in 1939.
They took over the Knickerbocker Silver Company in 1962.
Sold to Samuel Kirk & Son in 1977.

The American firm English Silver Mfg. Corporation, Brooklyn, New York, was a manufaturer, importer and distributer of silverplated products. Founded c.1950. Not familiar with Fonard Silver.
