Please help with ID...easy find for pro. Sheffield S. Co.

Postby lost silver » Thu Apr 05, 2007 9:55 am

Hello and thank you so much for trying to help me ID this piece. I have an old metal plate with grapes/leaves border pattern. Back is stamped SHEFFIELD S. CO. Aside from the stamp are the numbers 1783. Three icons in the middle of the stamp I cannot find the meaning of, nor do I know where the plate is from. The icons are 1) profile of man's head with beard (looks like Lenin). 2) 5 pointed crown. 3) Letter S in old style script. If you recognize these marks please let me know what I have. I am not even sure that the "1783" is a date. Please help! Thanks so much for any assistance you can lend me. Your friend, Gary
