large silver serving platter

Postby jgelperin » Mon Mar 12, 2007 3:10 pm

I can't i.d. a large tray.It has the following marks A large crown followed by the following gothic letters "S" with a line thru it '"B "A" or "E" and finally a C.The item is at least 2 feet long by a foot wide and has two very ornate handles. I have no clue if its sterling or plate. If anybody has seen anything like this I would be grateful

Does not sound like there are any marks indicating that it's solid silver so it's probably silverplated.

Not sure about this, but that might be an early mark used by Sol Goldfeder in the 1930's. Here's just a couple of the marks he used. He always used that style of crown.
