Who is this? Teaspoon marked XX S in box XX

Postby sunset » Thu Mar 01, 2007 9:21 pm

Hello! I have been searching, but have come up empty. I believe this is either sterling or coin, since it has the look, feel, and weight, but am not 100% sure, since it is not marked as either. This is from an estate, (all of the rest of the silver is Kirk, Gorham, and similar) and is the only piece marked with this. The S made me think of Seidman, but I cannot find any good info on them. Are the X's date marks maybe? Am I posting in the wrong place? All help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!!!

This is difficult without pictures. Can only offer a possibility.
Maybe the S stands for Sheffield. John Copley & Sons, Sheffield, England used a silverplate mark with two X's.

I am sorry that I am unable to post pics. The spoon has 2 X's followed by S in box, followed by 2 more X's, all in one line, with no other markings. That is why I am confused. I will research the Sheffield, though, since that is as close as I have seen. Thanks Pat!
