unidentified hallmarks on silver spoon.

Postby noe » Sun Feb 25, 2007 11:59 am

Hi, I recently found a silver spoon in my back garden whilst digging. I've been looking for what the hallmarks mean, but can't seem to find anything. I wondered if anyone else could reconise the marks ?
Regards
Mark

The four letters each in a circle look to me to be EPNS. EPNS stands for ElectroPlated Nickel Silver which means your spoon is silverplated.
Can't see the letters in the shield mark very well. Can you tell us what they are?

Hi thank you for your reply, sorry for the poor picture, I tried to get a good picture with my camera.
The sheild looks like 'super' with a bell or 'A' under it.
The four circles have designs in them. The top one is a some sort of crossed design, second looks like the german simbol for double S.I cant make out the third and the fourth looks like calligraphy styled D.

Sorry for the poor information, ill try and take a better photo maybe.
Cheers
mark

Hello Mark.
Those Gothic style letters are difficult to read, but I believe it is EPNS.
Could not find that Super in a shield mark in my books. Can't identify the manufacturer.

I believe the super A in the shield will be the quality of the plate. the most common one I have seen is Super A1. The maker frequently is found in a shield at the other end of the EPNS mark.
