Sterling Flatware mark

Postby mistiemu » Sat Feb 03, 2007 11:16 pm

Hi, I am new and just received several pieces of silver from my great grandmothers estate.

I found a set of sterling silver flatware - 6 knives and 6 forks with Mother of Pearl handles. The handle is marked sterling. I am not sure these are American...

The knives have a marking that I have not been able to identify. There are 3 squares with what looks like old English lettering, but I am not sure. The first looks like an M, the next 2 look like back wards D's?? Then there is another square under these 3 with the number "12" in it.

I plan on posting pictures as soon as my camera batteries are charged, but thought I would try here in the meantime.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I posted this and the picture of the whole item in a new thread, but it was deleted. Please let me know if I need to do anything else.

Thank you for any help you can give me.
