Hi. I have a silverplate teapot, engraved with "Officers Club Fort Winfield Scott" on the front, and am wondering if a date can be determined by the trademark.

The mark is a capital P inside a tilted square, with horizontal lines above and below the letter.

That sounds like a silverplate mark used by the Pairpoint Corporation, New Bedford, Connecticut. Founded in 1880. Stopped producing silver products around 1929.



In your other post you refer to date letters, probably British. Date letters were used on sterling along with a lion passant mark, a city mark, maker's mark and before 1890 a duty mark. Since your mark is by itself, it's most likely a silverplate mark.
