Sterling or Plated?

Post by Archway »

I picked up a few items (Sugar Cube & Cream Servers/small tray) all with the Westmorland mark. In the photo the Servers are on the left photo with word Sterling but the Tray (right side photo) does not have the word Sterling on it. I found an old advertisement online for a Westmorland Silverware set (Bottom Right Photo) stating the Rams Head Mark Means Sterling Silver. My question is for the Tray (with Rams Head Mark but not the word Sterling) do you think it is Solid Sterling or maybe just Sterling plate? Thanks

Hi,
Westmorland used ram trade mark labels on silver plate (not marked sterling).
The advertisement shows commercial capacity but meaningless statement ``highest quality in sterling silver``. Sterling is .925 fineness and that`s it; cannot be of lower or higher quality.
Have the tray tested.
Regards
