I have 3 pieces, pot, sugar and creamer marked with B Bros in a curvy shield. Beneath this symbol are 4 more, not all clear-first looks like stylized E, second capital P, third -another mystery . and the fourth .capital S with line thru it...below these is nbr 397...is this sterling, or plate? I wud really appreciate any information. Hoping to hear from a kind forum member. Julie

The letters under the shield mark are probably EPNS which stands for ElectroPlated Nickel Silver. Your piece is silverplate.
Could not find the shield mark with B. Bros. in my books. Might be Barker Brothers of Birmingham England, but I can't confirm that.
Sorry I couldn't help more.
Regards,
Pat.

Thank you, Pat, for the quick reply. I checked the Birmingham mark, but not the same. I am located in Canada-maybe it is a Canadian maker?
This will keep me occupied for the winter months. Regards, Julie
