help with dating a vintage belt buck with 'German Silver' stamp

Postby tpop » Wed Apr 05, 2017 8:21 am

Good morning. I am trying to date this vintage western belt buckle, and was wondering if anyone knows around what year the use of the term 'Silver' was disallowed on engravings in the U.S. on items that were actually not silver at all... such as 'German Silver'. Thank you in advance for any insight.

Hi!
Tony Sanva - the manufacturer of accessories in the style of the Wild West.
Not silver, Neusilber - an alloy of copper, nickel and zinc.
Called is also German silver.
Regards.

It's made by 'Tony Lama', they're primarily a manufacturer of cowboy boots, but have also made other western-wear accessories, including buckles, which were/are sometimes used as trophies/prizes at rodeos and horse shows. There is no regulation in the U.S. concerning the use of 'German Silver', your buckle could be fairly new...
