Silver cutlery - Unsure of location

Hi,

I've been given some silver cutlery from my Auntie to have a look into the hall marks. I've been searching but haven't found anything solid, except it may have been John Linnit which from what I saw was Birmingham.

The mark is 1970 J.L 942-4297
I've attached a picture too.

Hi Jack,

Welcome to the Forum.

They are not hallmarks, I'm afraid. The marks identify flatware supplied under a UK Government contract, probably for the armed services or similar.

The first mark is the government 'Broad Arrow', sometimes described as the 'Crow's Foot', it identifies government property. The second mark, '1970' indicates the date of manufacture, the third mark, the name of the supplier, and the last mark is the contract number.
