Hallmark 800 89PA ??

Postby trock1313 » Sat Aug 05, 2006 4:57 pm

Hello All
I have a beautiful bowl(?) with the hall mark 800 and beneath it in an oval it is stamped 89PA...any clues to its origin/age would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Is the "89PA" in an oval or an elongated hexagon? Sounds like it might be Italian (1944-68) from Palermo province- check this page: http://www.925-1000.com/foreign_marks.html.

thank you both
Yes the 800 is in an oval, the 89pa is in an elongated hex.
Is this silver or silverplated?
thanks so much

Your piece is not silverplate. The 800 refers to the fineness of the silver, just as .925 refers to the fineness that we call sterling.

Pat.
