18th and 19th Century spoons - need help identifying

Postby BiterC72 » Mon Jul 24, 2006 12:22 am

I have a few spoons that I am having difficulty identifying the makers - who are they and etc., so after lots of searching I have come to you all for some help. All the spoons are serving spoons with different names and date.

1) R. Wallace 1835

2) 1845 TROREY

3) 1847 Rogers bros. xs triple

4) Wm. A. Rogers sxr pat. April 1706

Any help would be appreciated, Thank you=)

#2, George E. Trorey was a manufacturer and retailer in Canada. In 1907 he sold out to Henry Birks & Sons but continued to manage the store for the new owners.

#3, 1847 Rogers Bros. XS Triple. This mark was used by the International Silver Company, Meriden, Connecticut. up to 1917. After that date 1847 Rogers Bros. silverplate was made in one quality and quality marks (XS TRiple, XS XII Triple, & XS Quintuple) were discontinued.

#4, William A. Rogers Ltd was taken over by Oneida Silversmiths in 1929. Don't know if Oneida continued to use this mark.

#1, Wallace - probably R Wallace & Sons Mfg Co, established in 1871.
