Help With Hallmarks

Post by JackE »

Greetings All:

This is my first post so I hope this is the correct forum in the correct fashion. I have 3 spoons with these hallmarks and would like to know everything possible about them. Thank you in advance for any knowledge you can provide.

Best,

Hi Jack,

Welcome to the Forum.

Sorry, but they are not hallmarks, but makers' marks only as they are not silver.

Your spoons were made by the Birmingham firm of Daniel & Arter.

See here for some of their marks: http://www.925-1000.com/silverplate_D.html

And here for another example of your mark: http://www.925-1000.com/forum/viewtopic ... er#p124895

The fact that your marks contain a crown reveals that they were made prior to 1897, at which date the use of such a device on plated wares was outlawed.

Always try to embed your images as few people will click on links.
