Postby moz » Sun Jul 09, 2006 2:12 am

not sure how to upload pic even after reading notes..sorry ..I have a small spoon which I have had for a long time..it bears what I think is a silver hallmark can you help ? there are 5 stamps.from left to right

Fleur des lyes , whats apears to be a swan , a fancy D , fancy "&" and might be a H or a K ..the spoon is about 4" long and in the bowl of the spoon is engraved with what looks to be a scottish cross of st andrew..I have posted a link to my site's gallery because I know how to upload pictures there..thanks in advance

Wish I could help but I have not been able to identify this mark either. I think the last letter is an H. Attached is what I believe is another style of this mark:

Yes, the mark I posted was on a spoon.
Have the feeling I should know this mark. I think it's either Canadian or English. Without the word sterling, .925, or the British lion passant, it might be silverplate. I'll keep looking.

Pat.

The "swan" is actually a gondolier, and both marks are of the English firm of (William Redfern) Deykin & (Walter Andrew) Harrison of Birmingham. They made both sterling and silverplate, but the two marks here are definitely silverplate. The company was known as Deykin & Sons until 1895, so your items must date after that. (Deykin & Sons' mark was very similar, but with "D & S") The company was still in existence in 1936, so first quarter 20th century is a good approximate date for both silver plate items.

Hope this helps!
