Help to identify mark

Hi, I have a silver plated sugar tong but im struggling on the marks. Can anyone help please? I thought it was JD & S James Dixon and Sons but then didnt know why it had the A at the start and an A at the end. Not sure how to upload a picture either?

Hi,

That's one of the many marks used by James Dixon & Sons of Sheffield.

The 'A' is likely to be a quality indicator mark.

Please remember to keep your images to within the 7" (18 cm) guidelines, otherwise those with smaller monitors only see part of the image.

Hi Nick,

All I can say is I think this is one of their early marks. Later they used the 'J' rather than the 'I' (those letters were interchangeable during the 18th/19th century).
