John Dixon & Sons

Hi, I have a very pretty electroplate teapot that has quite a bit of engraving and an ivory finial. The bottom of the teapot is marked as follows: JD & S EP(sideways) then a shield with a lamp in it; below the initials is as follows: M 6 6 9, then the number 5 below the M669. The initials JD are inside a stamped oval, the & is inside of a stamped circle that comes to a point at the top, and the S is inside of a stamped circle. The girl who sold me the teapot thought this was a James Dixon & Son teapot. After researching the marks, I came up with John Dixon and Sons. My question is: Am I right about it being John Dixon? If so, can you tell me where to find information about him? I would like to research my teapot, but so far, I have not been able to find anything on John Dixon & Sons. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you,
Clydie

I believe the mark you describe was used by James Deakin & Sons located in Sheffield. They were founded in 1868 as James Deakin & Company. They became James Deakin & Sons in 1871 and were in business until 1936.

Thank you for the information Patrick. I think I need to get some books on makers marks so hopefully next time I'll be able to differentiate between silver, silverplated, Dixons and Deakins! Thanks again,
Clydie
