7-piece coffee/tea service with tray

Postby dazedandconfused » Sat Mar 25, 2006 7:53 pm

I have a 7-piece service that has a crown and the letters "B" "S" and what looks like a "C" following the crown in one line. Underneath it is stamped "silver on copper". I will take a picture and attach later if necessary, but I am relatively camera-illiterate. The hallmarks are not stamped into the pieces. They look to be very faintly etched. I'm assuming this is to preserve the silverplate and not reveal the copper underneath. Any idea if this is Sheffield? Thanks.

I believe that mark was used by the American firm Birmingham Silver Company (Yalesville Connecticut) on their silver plate over copper pieces. They were the successors to the Goldfeder Silverware Company.

Precisely the hallmarks! Thank you so very much!
