What does 100 mean?

Postby Nancy » Mon Nov 28, 2005 12:28 pm

Hi, I have a few spoons with only the number 100 marked on the back. Can anyone tell me what it means? 1/10th silver would be my guess. Thank you for your time, Nancy

Hello, >100< was widely used in Germany to mark plated cutlery. It means that 100 gramm of pure silver were used to electroplate 24 pieces (12 large spoons plus 12 large forks). So my guess is, that the pieces are German and plated. Best wishes, Bahner
