help ID odd letters and symbol

Postby carla21 » Wed Apr 01, 2009 4:16 pm

I have some very heavy silverplate forks with this on the back...it appears to be a symbol with 'CCCD' also, '3p30K' and '(the symbol for pi) HW' or MHU? and again another symbol that is so hard to see and/or photograph.

Thanks for any and all help!!

Carla

Hello Carla.

Your forks are Russian.
What appears to be MHU are actually the kyrillic letters MNZ which refer to the material they are made of, a copper, nickel and zinc alloy.
3p30K is actually the price, 3 Rubles 30 Kopeks.

You're welcome Carla.

I think the alloy is called melchior. If you google that you might find more information.

Pat.
