sterling silver on copper tea set

Postby tam » Wed Sep 21, 2005 6:35 pm

I have a sterling silver tea service that has a left facing lion, looks like an old English P, an old English S, and a crown. Each item is in a box, each box is approximatley 1/4" square. It says sterling silver on copper beneath that. Does anyone know these marks? I will try to post a picture soon. I have broken my camera recently. Thanks in advance for any help.

I have seen this mark attributed to Poole Silver, but I do not know on what authority it is based. Your set is not sterling silver, of course. The phrasing "Sterling Silver on Copper" is no more than sales jargon for basic silverplate.
