6" coin silver teapot, Marked P.B. & P. Co.?

Can anyone help ID this piece. I'm new at this, but I'm thinking the 300 might refer to the weight, my postal scale would put it right about that weight, and I was thinking that the T might refer to the date? I am fairly certain it is American. Is any of it true? Please help! TIA, -kat

Porter Britannia & Plate Company? Just a guess.

Haven't got much help on this, though alot have viewed. Am I in the right category here? I had originally posted this in coin silver but it was moved. The reason I thought coin silver is the piece is fairly soft, has 300 stamped on bottom and seems to weigh 300 grams, and both the bottom rim and top rim sport greatly detailed "coin edges", which seems rather unique to me. Can anybody shed any light on this for me please? TIA>

Your piece is silverplated Brittania metal, not coin silver. As salmoned suggested, the primary candidate is the Porter Britannia & Plate Company, whose mark is, insofar as I know, not documented anywhere.

Oh, I see. Is the T denoting the date? is this a british piece from 1880? Does it appeal more towards silverplate or britannia collectors? Thanks for all your help. much appreciated.

The T is not a date, the piece is American, not British. Your question of its appeal alludes to its marketability, this is an area we don't touch on this forum.

Thank you Tom. Forgive me if you felt I was alluding towards "value" when asking who the piece appeals to most here. Perhaps a good rephrasing would be to ask in what area does this piece hold more significance? I am previously unfamiliar with this material as thought all plate would be on copper or brass. Again, I am a newbie, and if you are here to help and educate that's what I came for. When would you guess the piece dates too? Can you say why? What does the 300 denote, if anything. Is the T significant? Any information would be appreciated. You have already helped alot. Thank you.

Katie,
Yes, and I hope that you will use it.
1. When a "newbie" on a forum and someone, like salmoned, has taken the trouble to do research for you, do not let your first response to another's effort be - "Haven't got much help on this" - thank them instead.
2. When it is suggested to you by a board administrator that a question is inappropriate to the forum, it is not good form to veil the words and ask the same question again.
3. When on a board that specifically disallows the use of eBay names, it is poor judgment to use a photo url that contains your eBay seller name.
4. Don't use the word "useful" when you mean "usable".

That ends this discussion and your membership. Should you choose to reregister under another name and join us, keeping my comments in mind, you'll be very much welcomed.

Tom
