Hallo,
owning a candelabra of J.Grimminger Schwäbisch Gmünd.I´m wondering about the hallmarks. Its just marked 800 and the Grimminger G in the star. May it be possible, that the german halfmoon and crown
is missing because this candelabra had been exported to Switzerland?
thanks for an answer

Hello, should it not have a Swiss import mark in that case ? I have seen quite a few German pieces with maker's mark and fineness only, without half moon and crown. Most of these pieces dated from ca. 1970 or later. As there were no changes to the hallmarking law I have no convincing explanation for these "incomplete" marks. Best wishes, Bahner

Hello,
I only thought about export to Swizerland because I bought the candelabra over there. The candelabra is mentioned in the 1970 Catalog of Grimminger.Isn`t the finesse of 800 a bit unusual for the seventies? The Catalog has no entries about the finesse.--Does anyone know, when Grimminger stopped the production?
Best regards
Silvy

Hello, the fineness of 800 still is very common in Germany. Grimminger was dissolved in 1991, production of hollowware was taken over by Gayer & Krauss (which no longer exist, either). Best wishes, Bahner
