Silver spoon as souvenir of winter 1838

I came across this forum looking for more information about a silver spoon I have inherited, and I was wondering if anyone could tell me more about it as I imagine more examples should exist but cannot find anything at all on the web! :-)

It is a plain silver spoon and aparently a souvenir of a very cold winter. It has the following text engraved: "Gekocht op zee; een uur bewesten Workum den 12 February 1838 door [family member]"

(translated: "Bought at sea; one hour westerly of Workum on the 12th February 1838 by [family member]")



I have been able to retrieve the meaning of all the hallmarks except for the one identifying the maker of the spoon (yearmark is 1836). It looks like "R6" twice to me, of which one is upside down.

Hi,

The maker is R.A. Kuipers (mark used between 1832 and 1848), master in Workum.
You should read it as RK above 93 in a square.
