Vase standard looking hallmarks and one very unusual one

Postby SwissSilverBuff » Fri Jun 22, 2007 11:59 am

Hello,

These hallmarks puzzle me.

They are from a silver cup from Poland. But I can't find these marks on any Polish list.

Thanks in advance for your help.

The German marks can't be identified without a cleaner image, the winged A is an Austria-Hungary import mark of the late 19th/early 20th century.

Thanks Tom

Again you seemed to have hit the nail on the head.

Any idea what the "c" could stand for in the import mark?

In former Austro-Hungarian import marks, C would be mark for Prague.

Thanks again.

But just a question. If they call it an "import mark", does that mean that it was imported or exported? The other stamps clearly indicate "Germany" but was it exported out of Germany and given a German stamp to that effect or could it have be made outside of Germany and given an "import stamp" when it was imported, the other hallmark being a German confirmation that this is indeed 800 silver.

Any idea who the A.P might stand for?

Thanks again for your help.

It was given the German marks when manufactured in Germany, it received the Austro-Hungarian import mark on arrival in Prague. The AP is likely to be a retailer's mark or the mark of the importing agent.

AP = maybe Alfred Pollak, Prague?

Hello »SwissSilverBuff«

Is it possible for you to add again to this topic an image of the »AP« mark?

Please describe also, which »Maker's Mark Type« it is (Scheme: Vienna Assay Office).

I've explained this Scheme in several topics; now also in yours »cufflinks« topic:

viewtopic.php?t=16428

If the »AP« maker's mark is from type »IV-2«, then it would be »Alfred Pollak, Prag«.

Kind regards silverport
