re: Direction of hall mark

I am just getting into this area of collectibles. I have a generic question that relates to direction of facing in a hallmark. I have a piece where the lion is facing to the right instead of the left in what i suspect is a piece of english origin. Does this make a difference or is it of originators choice?

The lion passant is found facing to the right on pieces made in York in 1803 and 1806 (pictured). These pieces are pretty rare, so I'd suggest that you may have a Gorham piece or perhaps a Dutch item both of which used the right facing lion I believe.

the hall mark upon the piece i refer to is very similar to the one you show in the image provided. Is this a york piece you mentioned?

Yes, this is from an 1806 teaspoon by Prince & Cattles.
If you post a picture I can tell you for certain.
