Post by Ohota »

Large oval pot with handle

Heavily incised year marking , crudely , 1788 if I recall

Tough t could be like Dutch colonies or maybe old America, but have really no inkling

Hi, please embedded your images as most of our members do not open an unknown link.
Your image embedded;

Image
I believe it could be Dutch pseudo/fake marks; D pseudo year letter (#57), X pseudo mark (?), HD (conjoined) above star, pseudo maker's mark(#139), altered with overstrike of letter R in oval (?)

Please show us an embedded image of the item.

For information about pseudo marks, see;

Hi,
A rather similar mark (HR and star) can be found in Rosenberg, number 1641 (Dessau). Unfortunately the name seems to be unknown and this is a shot in the dark!

No you are right. The D is the town mark for Dessau and the maker's mark could be for Christoph Hieronymus Jacob Richter. Active in Dessau around 1769-1790. Again it is important to see an image of the object and
for Theodrich to confirm.
