Unidentified Swedish mark

Post by Peartree »

Hi I was hoping someone could help identify the top left hand assay mark of the M with crown in an oval? All the other marks are clear to me - this is from a small swedish quaich type bowl made in 1954 by MGAB, from Upsala. 800 standard. But what is the M mark!!? Thank you. Anthony

I will answer my own question - please comment. I think the crowned M is the “logo” of MGAB and probably indicates they had a Royal Warrant (or Swedish equivalent). The M in GMAB is very similar typeface to the Crowned M, and reminds me of the (Danish) Anton Michelsen logo when they gained their royal warrant.

MGAB is the maker's mark for K. G. Markströms Guldsmeds AB in Uppsala (U). The fineness is not 800 but 830/1000. The crowned M is Markströms logo.
