I have a lovely foxhunting crop with a sterling silver collar showing a maker's mark "F.N" . The maker's mark is raised and set in a simple impressed rectangle. There is no period behind the "N". The rest of the hallmark to the right of the maker's mark are: anchor, lion passant, and the letter "c". All are also raised, and each set, individually, within separate impressions of a shield-like background with a scalloped bottom. Internet research shows the year letter with this style background exactly corresponds to Birmingham 1902.

I have been unable to find out which silversmith in Birmingham at the turn of the century would have had the initials F.N.

Anyone know of this person/company?

Thank you so much, marticj. I'll have to check out those e-bay items. :-)

The fact that there are at least several examples of this silversmith's work out there is great. Hopefully, it may help provide more clues to find the full name of this maker.
