Hi,
I restore antique flutes, from late 18th century, through to lat 19th century, I am currently working on a French flute made by Denis Buffet. The silver keys are hallmarked, but I haven't found what I think is the Guarantee Mark on the side of the key. I am thinking the flute was made around 1790-1810.

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Hello
Is there any way you could sharpen the images? The top one especially looks very blurry on my monitor. I'd like to help, but need better visuals. Thanks.

Hi

It is the small guarantee mark for the provinces, used 1809-1819, form is a fasces (rotate view 90 degrees counterclockwise).

Regards, Tom

Jay, I will try to get a better shot of that Hallmark and post it. There are 4 keys with that mark, so one might show up better...

Found it, but there is still a question; the hatchet and the boar head are on the same keys, the hatchet fascest is dated at 1810 which fits the age of the flute, however the boar head is 1838? This is late for this flute maker.
