Bratislava 1808?

Postby orthogonal » Fri Jun 17, 2016 5:25 am

These hallmarks are on a tiny jug. Is it Bratislava 1808? What does the "K" stand for? And is it possible to identify "MT"?

Thank you!

Hi,
Yes, it was made in Pressburg (Bratislava).
Letter K has been discussed as date letter here
viewtopic.php?f=8&t=39300&p=108573&hilit=pressburg#p108573
It`s assayer`s mark. (E.g. Letter ``N`` was assigned to Josef Steinmassl around 1840).
The most reliable reference is
Eva Toranova, Goldschmiedekunst in der Slowakei (Hanau: Werner Dausien, 1982)
Best wishes

Hello, Reitzner lists two Bratislava masters with MT in a rectangle: Michael Tirsch, active ca. 1759-1780 and Michael Tuschek, active around 1828. Possibly the latter was active sometime before 1828 ? Best wishes, Bahner

Hello! The maker of your jug is Johann Michael Tirsch senior. As I know, he is from Eperjes (today Presov) He made his masterwork end became member of the guild in 1771. In 1817. he retired.
Johann Michael Tirtsch Junior became master 1810, died in 1818.
As I know, Michael Duschek never was the member of the guild of Pozsony (Pressburg) He worked in Pozsony-Vártelek (Pressburg Schlossgrund) in the suburb of Pozsony. He never used the mark of the guild, only a different punches of the silversmith community of Schlossgrund. The known marks of Duschek is MD in rectangle, known from 1827, and 1829.

Is it possible to make a better picture from the maker's mark?
Best regards!

saw the preview button, and send my reply. I don't know, where from the picture of the machine tool.
So this picture shows the other known mark of Michael Duschek in Pozsony-Vártelek (Pressburg-Schlossgrund)
Best regards!
