Berlin/Nürnberg/Hanau?

Postby orthogonal » Sat Apr 02, 2016 1:49 pm

This spoon bears four hallmarks, but I have no idea how to interpret them.
Is it the Berlin-bear + B, the Nuremburg-N + maker? And why both?
Are they pseudo-hallmarks? Where is it from? 21 cm, 36 g.

it is Nürnberg

B = Mai 1818-April 1820
MZ: (?.I/?)
if it is (I.I/D) then it is Nr.1045 - unknown maker.

Thank you a lot! Silver is such an interesting topic, but it's surprisingly hard to even get a general overview. What reference book do you use/recommend?

The makersmark is too worn to read properly, it could be II/D or II/R.
So "II/?" is the maker, B the year, N for Nürnberg. Any idea about the meaning of the fourth hallmark?

Hello, seem to remember dimly that Nuremberg used an additional mark (tax mark ?) in the first quarter of the 19th century, in the form of an animal on its hind legs (horse ? lion ?). This could be it. Regards, Bahner
