Maker Mark "D" on Cup

Postby coiny » Mon Feb 22, 2016 4:49 pm

My apologies if this is posted to the incorrect forum. Searching the images, I was unable to find anything close to this.

The mark appears on the bottom of a cup. It is a D in a dotted circle. That is the only mark on the bottom of the cup. There are no other markings.

If any expert identifier could point me to who this might have been produced by, I'd very much appreciate it.

Thank you.

Hi Ringo,

Here is a picture of the cup. It's inverted, but you can see a bit of the mark on the bottom. It's right in the centre of the bottom.

Does your object or mark look the same?

Hello coiny,

thanks for the foto, but I think I can not help you.
I have found a quite similar mark, but this is only a date letter mark from about 1714 from the city of Braunschweig /Brunswick.

Kind regards,
Ringo

Dear Ringo,

The mark you found is very close, but not quite exact. I wonder if the mark on my cup comes from the same time period. I have no idea when it was made, or even which century, or what country. The mark is quite a mystery.
