makers mark

I would like information on the maker's mark on my pair of art nouveau candlesticks. I believe the mark says JR&Co. although this mark is a little worn at the top of the letters. Other marks on the pieces say Birmingham, sterling, 1870.Any information you can give me would be helpful.

When you say Art nouveau...this was actually before the period which was from approx 1890-1910 and a bit beyond. Would you say your candlesticks are Gothic or perhaps Arts and crafts? Could the letters be JH&Co? Best wishes, Mike.

Thanks for your response. I would say they are more Arts and Crafts.There is a cut out pattern around the candle holder (punched out rather than hand cut), the stems containsome curved forms (that I thought were art nouveau), the base is a bit hand twisted (supposed to be, I don't know).
The maker's mark could be JR&Co., JB&Co., or perhaps the J is a rubbed off O or D. I don't think the second letter is an H, since it has a rounded form.
