Can anyone help with the makers mark R.R

Postby Plum81 » Sat Apr 08, 2006 4:38 pm

I seem to be having a bit of trouble identifying the makers mark R.R, can anyone advise?

Thanks

Please have a look at
viewtopic.php?t=41
How's about narrowing down the target area.
Country, city, time period, type of object?

Thanks, Tom

Maker Mark RR

Postby Plum81 » Sat Apr 08, 2006 6:06 pm

Ok More info.

The item is a stand of some sort. It is flat with legs about 1 inch tall. The plate has a crest on the top with some sort of pheonix.

The other markings are of a crowned leopard, a lion. The letter is an n (which kind of looks like an omega symbol) I have checked it and it is apparently from 1768.

It is the makers Mark that cannot be identified (R.R)

Any help much appreciated

Perhaps it is a salver? If so, you have two very likely suspects - Robert Rew or Richard Rugg (both 3rd qtr 18th century). Now it depends on the type of the cartouche (the shape of the mark). Both used the R.R in a square cartouche, Rew's was a bigger. They are often confused. Photo please! I am open to the ideas (and condemnation!) of others.
