crown and right facing passant lion

Postby Pru » Sat Sep 29, 2012 4:25 am

I have a pair of sugar tongs with a three picture mark which has me stumped. It has a crown, a left facing head, and a right facing passant lion. I thought it may be Hanau but can only see the crown and lion mark there. The Dutch marks has Minervas head and a right facing lion but again it doesn't look right as there are no tiny numbers or letters to the marks. Toronto Silver Company also have a right facing lion and a crown but there is no sterling mark and there is that head. I can't find another mark on the forum like this as yet. The tongs are definitely solid silver although what purity I can't be sure. Hoping someone can help.

Hi,

Try posting an image of the whole piece. Perhaps the style may give a clue to their origin.

I think I have discovered the origins of this piece. The markings are so similar and individually identical to several used by early Australian silversmiths that I am confident that this is the case.
