Hi!
I will appreciate if anybody can id these marks.
It is an authentic silver piece , probably German, made before XVIII century.
P.S. I'm sorry for single picture. I can't post any more, because owner of this plate doesn't let me post full view.
Id hallmarks before XVIIIC (German?)
Re: Id hallmarks before XVIIIC (German?)
Hi Olag,
Hello,
Welcome to the forum.
Yes, I believe German assay mark; 12 above Z for the city of Zittau in Saxony date used 1731.
The 12 stands for 12 Lot=.750 or 75% fine silver.
The maker's mark M.O
The zig zag mark has been made by assayer who removed some silver for an assay test. See;

For the information see Marc Rosenberg LF#4965

Re: Id hallmarks before XVIIIC (German?)
now the problem is, that Rosenberg have no makersmarks
I have a little list with some makers from Zittau
there was a master Martin Ortscheid (He made his masterly piece in 1701)
so I think the time 1710 - 1740 is a realistic estimate
is there a engraving?
