Unable to identify maker of fork

Postby user701 » Tue Jul 19, 2011 7:30 am

I am hoping someone may know the maker of a French export silver fork I acquired recently and trying to roughly date how old it is.

Makers mark - on reverse of the fork, above the tines.

French export mark - on the front of the fork, above the tines.

Sterling Tiffany & Co France mark on the side of the handle - Retailer mark?

Many thanks in advance for any help in dating and finding out who the French maker is.

Hi User,

To me, that looks more like the bigorne mark, rather than the maker's mark. Is it positioned directly behind Standard mark?

Regards Trev.

Hi Trev,

Thanks for the reply, the mark is positioned behind the standard mark (which is on the front of the fork) but more on the edge, not directly behind.

Through a loupe I can make what look like some sort of insect (two of them) possibly, but the mark is partly rubbed and hard to make out.

Thank you

Hi user,

On the right side of the fork there is the export mark, the makersmark should be on the left side of the fork. About the same position. There are not that many French masters who worked for Tiffany. Even a worn mark could give an idea. Please make a good photo.

Regards,

Zilverik

Hi Zilverik,

There are no other marks present on the fork, I have already posted all the marks present.

Thank you anyway.
