Hello,

Please help me with fork's maker's hallmark.

It bears the regular crescent moon, crown and 800 silver standard mark (after 1886).
However, there is the additional word Universum and a three - prong fork symbol along with the letters OKA on the back of the fork. I could not match these additional words/symbols to anything posted.

The fork (representing a set of silverware) is a clean, modern design.

»OKA« stand for »OKA Besteckfabrik GmbH, Otto Kaltenbach, Altensteig/Schwarzwald, Germany« [OKA Cutlery Factory Plc].

I assume that »UNIVERSUM« is maybe their pattern name for this (here incomplete shown) pattern — developed maybe for the period of the 1958 World Exhibition in Brussels?

This pattern name I couldn’t find in any German pattern name registry — but in tendency, all pattern names of OKA from the period were more global then local oriented, like e.g. »SKANDINA«, another flat sculptured pattern shown in the Cologne International Cutlery Exhibition »ibesta« in 1964.

»OKA« made also cutlery in massive silver alloys from every fineness necessary — but their main production was electro plated cutlery.

It was by chance I found this site, and am most appreciative of the expertise that is shared.

Perhaps my set has some historical significance, as you had mentioned the 1958 Brussels World Exhibition. I'd be curious to find out more.
