Can you help with a streling silver 1905 Sailing Cup with the makers mark G.N (above) R.H?

Given the lack of info, I can only guess that the item is British. If so, see->

Yes it's British. I'm sure you are correct. George Nathan and Ridley Hayes would seem to be the people and from that the 1905 date also seems correct.

I was a little confused by the "E" date letter but thought it must be 1905 not 1730.

Presumably it's possible for an inscription to be added to an early item but the hallmark inforamtion would always be original?

The George Nathan & Ridley Hayes mark should be in a shield. They had work registered at London, Birmingham and Chester - so the town mark is important, a cat's face for London, an anchor for Birmingham and a shield for Chester. Were your piece from 1730, the cats face would be crowned! And the lion passant sterling mark would be different too.
