F.RÜCKERT and Frankfurt on the Main eagle

Postby silverport » Sat Aug 15, 2009 4:54 pm

Hello

In «Rosenberg» Vol. 2, p. 79, Nr. 1995 (town mark of Frankfurt on the Main in 1560) is the only similar one (eagle in a circle) which fits to shown town mark.

F.RÜCKERT was silversmith in Frankfurt on the Main. This cutlery object could be the last F. RÜCKERT “home made” — punched with Frankfurt on the Main mark (which isn’t registered in «Rosenberg»)?

Before middle of XIX century Alfred Krupp introduced successfull a more mechanized cutlery production method — some silversmith stopped own production and buy factory produced cutlery. Just before sale these new retailers punched her full name on these cutlery objects.

Georg Peter Bruckmann was on the continent one of Alfred Krupp’s early clients for this more economic production process. Settled in Heilbronn he was obliged to use Heilbronn town mark of that time (eagle in circle) — this Heilbronn town mark was later company’s trade mark for products in silver alloy.

Raised question: Is F.RÜCKERT cutlery bearing Heilbronn eagle — made by Bruckmann - and on sale in Frankfurt?

In my collection is one spoon, monogram 1821: “13.” (Lot - in horizontal oval) punched in a rectangular frame “P:B&C” and separately Heilbronn eagle in circle This Heilbronn eagle has straight legs; not like example of Frankfurt eagle.

An other spoon: “13.” (Lot - in horizontal oval) punched in a long rectangular frame “P.BRUKMANN&C” and separately Heilbronn eagle in a slightly vertical oval circle. This last mentioned Heilbronn eagle has bent legs like example of Frankfurt eagle.

Kind regards silverport
