W<pellet>J Mystery Maker - London 1832

Here are the marks on a 30 cm (11.75 inch) sterling stuffing or basting spoon marked for London, 1832-3:



I can find no identification for maker "W<pellet>J" in a rectangular shield. The closest marks I see are for a W. Jenkins and a W. Jaffray listed for Glasgow in the 1848-1903 period, and they used a period, not a pellet. Might someone be able to identify this mystery maker? Thanks!

P.S. - I haven't included an overall pic of the spoon, as it is a bit too large for my scanner. It is a fairly "standard issue", non-descript Brit fiddle pattern. There is no engraved crest or mono.

Hi-there was a maker registered in 1834 whose mark is similar to yours being WJ period between by the name of Walter Jordan. He had a second similar, though not illustrated, mark which might well have included a pellet rather than a period. Perhaps you could research this maker further. Good hunting.

Could be William Johnson, maker of flatware, mark entered 1822 and active in the 1830s.
