W K Vanderslice & Co together with Gorham sterling mark

Postby valentine2 » Fri Feb 23, 2007 7:17 pm

Hi, I recently acquired a Gorham sterling ladle in the Luxembourg pattern. Its around 5 1/2 inches in length. It has the gorham hallmark for the last quarter of the 19th century together with the word sterling. But what is surprising and confusing is that it also has W K Vanderslice & Co stamped on the back. Any suggestions why?

W.K. Vanderslice & Co. became the company's name in 1897, by that point they had become basically a silver and jewelry retailer rather than manufacturer.
