Question about the term Handwrought

I came up with a real nice piece of jewelry at a rcent auction. The item is clearly marked handwrought. Research I have done indicates this mark or term ceased its usage in the early part of the 20th century. At the same time some info I came across makes me think the term was used or applied as a mark on some jewelry in the 1950s. Can I get some clarification on the matter. "Handwrought" literally means that an object was made by hand rather than by machine. Additionally, the word suggests that the object was unique rather than mass-produced. The early 20th century Arts and Crafts Movement gave the word "handwrought" a particular association, but the work of today's artisan and craftsman is equally handwrought.

The Mealy Manufacturing Company, Baltimore, Maryland, was a jewelry manufacturer who used the words "Hand Wrought" in their trademark. They were in business roughly from 1900 through 1956.
