I am pretty sure this piece is sterling, but I can find no marks. I have looked in the typical spots -- around the neck/bolster area and on the underside of the handle (the edge along the cutting side of the blade). I have had it under a microscope and looked everywhere on the handle. There are a few reasons I believe it is sterling -- worn spots show no base metal, I do not recognize the pattern, and it is not shown in Hagan (looked cover to cover). I have also been through the major manufacturers (Wallace, Reed & Barton, Gorham, etc.) on flatware sites like SterlingFlatwareFashions, with no luck.
My hope is that someone out there recognizes the pattern.
Thanks so much.
Unknown piece Sterling?
Re: Unknown piece Sterling?
I found it -- finally. I had to go through every sterling pattern from every sterling maker alphabetically -- got to the M's -- Manchester, Canonnade pattern. But I got it :)
Thanks to everyone who looked.
