Date mark

Please help. I have been unable to identify one mark of three on a set of silver passed down to me. The silver belonged to a member of Canadian Parliament, last name Emmerson.

There is an anchor, for Birmingham, a lion for English and then a 5 pointed star with a capital E in it. I have been unable to id the 5 pointed star or pentagram with the E in it.

I'm certainly no expert on non-British silver (nor British silver come to that), so I will feel very proud if I manage to get this right.

Miles is correct. Just thought I'd ad a bit of information. The middle mark with an E in it is a maple leaf, a symbol of Canada.

Thank you so much for the clarification. I would have never seen a maple leaf with the E...aren't the eyes the first to go? :)

Ok, I'm going to further display my lack of knowledge...if this is not British what is it? Is this English? Why would a Canadian maker be listed under American?

Is this a correct statement: Sterling silver 925, made in Birmingham by P.W. Ellis & Co. between 1877-1928.

It's not British, and, as England is in Britain, it's not English. The forum says the company was based in Toronto, Canada. I imagine it's in the American category for the same reason Dublin is in the British category: the similarities in the silversmithing history, the styles and the hallmarks themselves all warrant the sharing of one category which make it easier for people without much knowledge to locate the marks on their items.
