Any ideas on this?

Postby GoodSheila » Wed Oct 04, 2006 7:17 pm

This is an old family heirloom that we recieved after my grandmother passed away.

We've no idea how long it has been in the family - its just always been there.

We also have never known purpose it serves.

It is silver, it just hasn't been polished lately.

The only marking that we can find is on the bottom, and it says 65.

I am interested in what this object is or what it was used for. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know!

Thanks in advance!

Just by accident I think I have found what your piece is called, a jewel casket. Most of these were made during the last quarter of the 19th century.
