sterling mark 587

hi, i have acquired a sterling whiskey flask. the makers' mark underneath reads STER LING in a horizontal scripted letter "S" and the number 587 beneath that. any info would be greatly appreciated. thank you,ivy.

That mark sounds similar to one used by Scharling & Company, Newark, New Jersey. John H. Scharling founded the business in 1885. They were in business until at least 1934.
